Heart – The heart is a muscular organ in humans and other animals, which pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system. Blood provides the body with oxygen and nutrients. The heart is located in the middle compartment in the chest.
Volunteers are the heart of any non-profit organization. They live right in the middle of the organization supplying life sustaining elements: hard work, a friendly smile, a positive attitude, brilliant ideas, encouragement, financial resources and time! Where would we be without them?
Today we celebrated our volunteers. They have enabled UFRC to make the biggest possible impact in our community and for that we are forever grateful to them.
Our guest speaker, Scott Neely, delivered a powerful and insightful message. He shared personal stories that drew us in and revealed the fact that the families we serve and the interruptions we experience bring valuable gifts to us all, even when they can be difficult. We just have to look for them. Thank you Scott for sharing your heart, we enjoyed your reflections and insight.
Our celebration of volunteers then went on to awards. UFRC presented two awards this year to two standout volunteers.
Our first award, the Carroll McKinney Volunteer of the Year Award went to Ellen Batton from our Chesnee site! She has served her community for numerous years and joined our efforts several years ago. She does an outstanding job connecting UFRC to the Chesnee area. Thank you Ellen for everything you do!
The second award is our Making a Difference Award. The recipient is Phil Balsamo for the way he has made a difference at UFRC this past year. Whenever you needed someone to be around to talk about a budget, Phil was there! Whenever there was a client who was unsure about the financial world and needed help with their bank, Phil was there! And when Phil was asked to teach a budgeting class, he was there! When Phil was asked to join the board, he was there. Phil has made a difference in multiple families lives this past year and we would like to thank him for that.
Lastly thank you to all of UFRC volunteers! Without you we would not be able to do everything that goes on at the Center. We truly value your time, your willingness to help, and especially your effort! We will never be able to thank you enough for everything you do.
